Background: Mine haul road conditions directly influence haul truck speed, cycle time, and operational productivity. At Sector 7 of PT Asmin Bara Bronang, overburden haulage had not met the production target, and several road segments did not satisfy the geometric design criteria specified in Ministerial Decree No. 1827 K/30/MEM/2018.
Objective: This study evaluates the existing haul road geometry and estimates the potential productivity improvement achievable by redesigning deficient road segments.
Methods: A quantitative descriptive-evaluative approach was applied to 38 road segments along a 3,038 m haul route. Field measurements covered road width, grade, superelevation, crossfall, rolling resistance, and the cycle time of the Komatsu HD785-7 haul truck. Haul truck performance under idealized geometric conditions was simulated using TALPAC.
Results: The required improvements included increasing the average width by 4.56 m on deficient straight segments and by 5.10 m on deficient curved segments, reducing the average grade by 1.5%, increasing the average superelevation by 2.7%, establishing a 2% crossfall, and reducing rolling resistance to 2.45%. Productivity increased from 92.627 to 124.564 bcm/h.
Conclusion: Bringing haul road geometry into compliance with the applicable design criteria can substantially improve haulage efficiency, with an estimated productivity gain of 31.94 bcm/h.
